Food for Thought

I feel like today I had an epiphany. Today in AVID we read and article about what colleges are looking for in college application essays. They want you to get deep down and personal. So what that you're smart and can wing a football down the field 80 yards, they want to know you. For the majority of my high school career that colleges just want to how smart you are and things of that nature. They actually want to know you're personality. What things in life make you who you are? What can you bring to the table as a student in their college? I guess to answer that question you actually have to analyze experiences in your life that have contributed to your being.

That whole idea opened my eyes. I need to start actually paying attention to what happens in my life to tell the world about it, or in this case the college I'll be attending. I really need to appreciate the events that take place in my life, good or bad. All things that have happened happened for a reason. I believe God definitely has a plan for my life and I just have to follow his will. If I hold up my part of the bargain, He will do the rest.

A Day and a Half...

Today has been a rather interesting day. We (as in the girl's soccer team) had a game against Randallstown. We won 9-0...Yeah, you heard me right. I was feeling rather bored in that game because they were barely on my side of the field, whichever it was. I only touched the ball 3 times. As a goalie, I felt well protected. But I think my forwards could have scored at least 5 or 6 more goals. They were taking too long to shoot and they were shooting directly to their goalie so those time I was like WHAT THE HECK! I was getting so frustrated back there. Other than that, we, overall, dominated the game. Kaila scored 5, Precious, Deja, Thelma, and Faye all scored 1 goal.

That field was very soft by the way. I had more mud on me in pre-game that I did throughout the entire game. I couldn't set, grip, or plant firmly into the ground. Good thing it didn't become a huge factor of the game on our part. At the end of the game, I had so much mud and grass caked up under my cleat it was ridiculous.

I also found 2 bruises on my arm. I was stepped on in practice yesterday and now I have two cleat mark bruises on my right forearm. But I'm okay...I'm going to go watch Princess and the Frog now.

College...Thinking...and more College

Well yesterday I've been rethinking of what I want to do with my life. On Saturday, I applied to York College. And yesterday, I applied to Washington College. I applied to both of these schools but for different things. At York, my interest was Music Industry/ Recording Technology. At Washington, my interest was Computer Science. Now I'm all stressed out because I'm not completely sure on a major yet. But my dad, my sister, and my god-mother all gave me advice. I technically don't have to declare a major until my junior year of college. But when I'm ready to do so, I have to look up what types of jobs these majors will eventually lead me and their pay and stuff like that. My father just told me do what what I can control like doing homework, applying for college, and looking for scholarships, and if I'm faithful, God will take care of the rest. I'll just take that option and do what I need to do.

Random Song of the Day

Yeah, I know this is random but this song is so relatable.

THE SHOW by LENKA

I'm just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don't know where to go I can't do it alone I've tried
And I don't know why

Slow it down
Make it stop--
Or else my heart is going to pop
'Cause it's too much
Yeah, it's a lot
To be something I'm not

I'm a fool
Out of love
'Cause I just can't get enough

I'm just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don't know where to go I can't do it alone I've tried
And I don't know why

I am just a little girl lost in the moment
I'm so scared but I don't show it
I can't figure it out
It's bringing me down I know
I've got to let it go
And just enjoy the show

The sun is hot
In the sky
Just like a giant spotlight
The people follow the signs
And synchronize in time
It's a joke
Nobody knows
They've got a ticket to that show
Yeah

I'm just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I dont know where to go, can't do it alone I've tried
And I don't know why

I am just a little girl lost in the moment
I'm so scared but I don't show it
I can't figure it out
It's bringing me down I know
I've got to let it go
And just enjoy the show oh oh oh

Just enjoy the show oh oh oh

I'm just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I dont know where to go I can't do it alone I've tried
And I don't know why

I am just a little girl lost in the moment
I'm so scared but I don't show it
I can't figure it out
It's bringing me down I know
I've got to let it go
And just enjoy the show oh oh oh

Just enjoy the show

Dum de dum
Dudum de dum

Just enjoy the show

Dum de dum
Dudum de dum

Just enjoy the show

I want my money back
I want my money back
I want my money back

Just enjoy the show

I want my money back
I want my money back
I want my money back

Just enjoy the show

Project 365 Day 4 9/11/11

I think I prefer the picture that was taken by Dona on the first day first day of school.
Here's my bio for the program:

Alyssa has been apart of the AVID program since her 9th grade year. In the beginning, she believed it to be redundant and was not going to receive any valuable information from it. But as the journey went on, she went from a shy and depressed freshman to a well accomplished senior with no regrets. She believes her mistakes will only make her stronger. AVID has made her college bound. She has continuously made the honor roll, with the exception of the first quarter of 11th grade. She is also a goalkeeper on the varsity girls soccer team and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to become a live sound engineer or an audio technician. Her top schools are American University, William Paterson, York of PA, Shenandoah University, and Drexel University. And with all that being said, she just repeats Philippians 4:13 as her mantra; "I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength."

Project 365 Day 2 9/3/2011

Well on Saturday, my sister Amber, her friend Ashley, my mom, and I all went to Columbia Mall to go see the movie The Help. That movie was very informative and afterwards had me thinking of how my life could have been if... I just was thinking if. I also was thinking that God put us all in the correct time period for a reason because I don't know if i could have endured what those women faced back in Jim Crow ridden Jackson, Mississippi. But, I really enjoyed the movie. I give it two thumbs up. I believe it was a very inspirational movie because it teaches the morals of courage and bravery. Two morals that I quickly need to possess.
But then after the movie, we all went to the restaurant UNO. When we first got there, it looked like it was going to be a long wait because of the amount of people in there. It was only like a 5 minute wait. I got a bowl of chilli with tortilla chips. I even had the blue corn chips. Those taste better with the chilli than them by themselves. It was quite scrumptious. I smashed that chilli within 8 minutes. My mother and sister shared a thin crust BBQ Chicken pizza. But of course I had to get a few slices because I'm that kind of person. But the night ended well and I had a fun time with my family. Love those guys!

Project 365 Day 1 9/2/2011

Friday was a large myriad of experiences. Right after school, I took the bus home for the first time this year. As soon as I got home, I was on my way right back out the door because my sister was asking me if I was going with her to this place called The Cave. The Cave is a Christian club where we listen to music and stuff like that. Well in order for us to have a ride, we had to walk up to the shopping center near Giant because she had to deposit her check. But even before all that, I checked the mail and I found a early decision application from Drexel University (which is one of my top 8 schools). I started filling out all the information that I could but I have to still write a personal essay and report it to guidance and stuff like that. But anyways, my sisters, Amber and Alexx, and I all walked up to the PNC in Giant. But on the way there, there was a colossal traffic jam up near New Town Elementary and there were a bunch of kids from Sudbrook coming from our school too. But along our rather extensive voyage to the bank, this little 6th grade girl asked my sister and me if she could borrow a phone to contact her sister that works at McDonald's because her mother didn't pick her up. After all that we finally get to PNC and my sister makes a mistake and presses "Cash Check" instead of "Deposit". She's wondering why they're asking her how much money she wants to withdraw. She has stupid moments sometimes, lol. But then afterwards, while we're still waiting for our ride my sisters and I went into the Chinese restaurant next to Starbucks. She got something with chicken in it and I got a chicken box. Once our ride arrived, we got in his car and headed to pick up a couple more people. Mind you, this is a five seater and it was already 4 of us in the car. We were picking up two more people. We called them to find out where they were because they go to Digital Harbor, which is in the heart of downtown. There were several complications getting down to where they were because of the grand Prix. They got off the bus on the corner of Baltimore and Calvert Streets. There was so much traffic trying to get them. At one point, I think we went in a circle. We eventually got them and they stacked up in the car. He sat down first and the other person basically sat across us. And then it was even harder getting out of downtown, MY LORD! We kept making jokes because always ended up behind this Staples truck. But we eventually get on the highway, on our way to Marley Station Mall were The Cave was located this week. We were in the middle of the mall listening to music and praising God and spreading the word of this event called Rock The Block, which is on Saturday 9/10/11. This artist named Stephanie was up performing and being the crazy people we are, we asked to be her back up dancers. We started doing "The Wobble" and "The Dougie" and stuff like that. It was hilarious. Then at the end, we found out that it was  someone's birthday so we decided to sing for her. We sang the Stevie Wonder version in harmony and everything. People were excited and thought we were a singing group and asking where we were from and we were like "We're not famous, just family and friends". Afterwards, the singer Stephanie talked to us and loved us and wants to come to our church and take us on tour. I think it's rather funny. We eventually all go back to my house to watch movies. First we watched You Again and then Rise of the Planet of the Apes on bootleg, lol. And then to wrap things up we watched Guess Who,  but we all fell asleep. They didn't leave until like 4:30 am. But yeah, that's how my Friday went.
