Lindsay's Visit...and our TABB
In AVID class, one of Dona's former students, Lindsay, came to talk to us about her college Hampton University and the college experience itself. I really enjoyed her shared information about college in general. Her all-around knowledge of Hampton surprised me; it's amazing that she could retain so much information about her school. Now for the TABB.
- T- My take away from her presentation was her appreciation of the fact she goes to a HBCU. I myself am not interested in going to one but she seems to really enjoy the oneness of her atmosphere. How blacks are looking for other blacks to succeed, not just in college, but also in life.
- A- My action I plan to take with this is to not downgrade HBCUs anymore. For the longest time I never appreciated why people wanted to be with there own kind. I mean we go to a predominately black high school now, so why would you want to an all-black college? Wouldn't that be step backward? The world isn't full of people that support the black community. I figured that most people sees this as a plus. Like Lindsay said, since the black community is slowly decaying in the education field, it feels good for others to support each other.
- B- The barrier that would be a hindrance for my action. I don't really want to go to a HBCU. I need diversity in my college. I personally prefer a mixed college. Also, I need for black people to make a better name for themselves. That's a main reason why I don't want to go to a HBCU.
- B- My benefit of seeing it through is becoming less judgemental of the black community.

TGIM
Monday was good. We had a good discussion in AVID about The Hunger Games. I feel like it's going to be a good book. The trailer made the book seem like it is going to be nice.
This blog is also about how we can help our fellow house members and how we can improve on our own part. The people in the Themis house hurting us the most are Ashland Tann, Nia Armstead, Diamond Houston, Jessica Spence, and Tony Marseille. All of which are underclassmen with negative scores. Most of the low points are from disrepect, lack of preparation, and report card/interim grades. This little kids need to get it together. This ain't a game. I'm tired of hearing Atlas always in the lead because our underclassmen can't get it together. I don't want to be in second place to them anymore. They need to crack down on their grades and become more proactive. As for me, I just need to get better in my weaknesses. My AVID grade was horrible. There were a couple classes that I did not terrible but bad in that I thought I did good in. I guess I can also become more active in the House of Themis. I haven't gotten accepted anywhere yet. I need to get together with my counceller and check up to see if she finished the counceller recommendations I gave to her. Deadlines are coming to a close and I need to just pay for them now. But I still need a teacher recommendation too. UGH stress building up again.

Sunday...
It was a good day. Church was fun. I was in the back producing CDs and making labels for that days topic. My little cousin Sydney was so funny. She kept making all this noise and being phoney for no reason; she's not even 2 yet. Then after church, me, my sister Amber, and my father went to Outback for dinner. I had like this super bacon cheeseburger or whatever. It was heaven and death at the same time. It was good though. We were trying to watch the Patriots-Broncos game over this wall thingy. We also found out that the Packers lost for the first time this season to a sucky team, the Kansas City Cheifs.
Then the Ravens just got totally demolished on Sunday Night Football. We lost 34-14 to the Chargers. Our defense looked brand new. Our corners were just getting burnt. I just had no words for how they played. It sucked.
I LOVE CHARITY!
On Saturday, I woke up late. 9:36 am to be exact. This is late compared to how early I usually wake up around 7 or 7:30. My mom drove my sister, Salena, and me to the church. Then, me, my best friend, and Salena went with Jason to go the iLoveCharity concert. We got there around 12pm. Salena, by the way, was getting on my nerves the entire time. We started carrying in sound equipment and setting up for all the performers and volunteers. We smashed some Chick-fil-a platter nuggets when they got there.
That concert was beyond awesome once it got started. I was working the lyrics from the from of the sanctuary. The girl Bona started off. She was legit. She ministered acousticly with her acoustic electric guitar. Then those dancers came up and took everybody in. The did "Love Medley" by God's Chosen. Crazy; they went off. Then, my girl Stephanie got up and the tears were falling like crazy. Her testamony alone was astounding. She had the organ playing behid her and everything, lol. Then my boy Marcus Akins got up with his grup and the worship never stopped. Then to top off the evening, Ashley Marie got up there. She didn't even follow her words because the Holy Spirit was just moving. I felt she wrote a song just from being up there. It was beyond me, that was all God's doing. I had an awesome time.

Gotta Get Down on Friday?
Friday was an interesting day. Well for once, we couldn't go to The Cave. I was mad because my boyfriend was going to come. I haven't seen him in like 3 weeks since his show started. My mom and grandparents came over and put up our Christmas tree. My best friend made fun because it looks extra patriotic with the red, white, and blue color scheme. I wanted my mom to keep the silver garland and forget that red ribbon, but whatever. We even did some old Praise 'N' Motion Christmas dances. I also had to escort my grandfather to the post office down the street. It was so much traffic coming back to my house, I had to take him the long way around on the way back.
What? December 15?
Reflection of Concert
My band concert was rather successful. I did good on "Island Paradise" but I skipped like 8 measures in "Jamaica Farewell" and got back into place after the tremolos on A. My father thought it was rather long and that we had a didn't have a great repertoire of songs. But it's whatever. The end was nice. The marching band was going off. Afterwards, we went to Qdoba. I had a ground beef burrito. LOVED IT!

Last Friday
Last Friday, we went to The Cave. They were having an event called Meatball in My Shoe. They were doing that to raise money for their next "Rock the Block" event for New Year's Eve/Day. It was cool. My youth group and I had to do our Seven Deadly Sins again. It was shorter this time. We all only had 5 minutes to speak. Our girl Stephanie sang again and we danced behind her. We were all geeking when 11:00 hit. DJ Craig was playing all the line dances: The Wobble, Cha-Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle. We felt like we were on the cruise again.
